  Basic Law: Jerusalem, Capital of Israel

Jerusalem, Capital of Israel 1. Jerusalem, complete and united, is the capital of Israel.

Seat of the President, the Knesset, the Government
and the Supreme Court
2. Jerusalem is the seat of the President of the State, the Knesset, the Government and the Supreme Court.

Protection of Holy Places 3. The Holy Places shall be protected from desecration and any other violation and from anything likely to violate the freedom of access of the members of the different religions to the places sacred to them or their feelings towards those places.

Development of Jerusalem 4. (a) The Government shall provide for the development and prosperity of Jerusalem and the well-being of its inhabitants by allocating special funds, including a special annual grant to the Municipality of Jerusalem (Capital City Grant) with the approval of the Finance Committee of the Knesset.

(b) Jerusalem shall be given special priority in the activities of the authorities of the State so as to further its development in economic and other matters.

(c) The Government shall set up a special body or special bodies for the implementation of this section.

Territorial Boundaries of Jerusalem (Amendment 1)** 5. The Boundaries of Jerusalem include, for the purposes of this Basic Law, among others, all of the territory described in the appendix to the Declaration on the Expansion of the Boundaries of the Jerusalem Municipality from 20 Sivan, 5727 (June 28, 1967), which was issued according to the Municipalities ordinance

Prohibition of Transfer of Powers (Amendment 1) 6. No powers relating to the boundaries of Jerusalem that are granted by Law to the State of Israel or the Jerusalem Municipality shall be transferred to a foreign power, State or sovereign, or any other foreign party, either permanently or for a fixed period of time.

Entrenchment (Amendment 1) 7. The directives in Articles 5 and 6 shall not be changed save by a Basic Law which is passed by a majority of the members of Knesset.

Basic Law: Jerusalem, Capital of Israel (Amendment)**

Purpose 1. This Basic Law comes to establish in the Basic Law: Jerusalem, Capital of Israel a restriction on altering the territorial boundaries of Jerusalem and on altering the application of law, justicability, and administration of the State of Israel within these boundaries, and comes also to prohibit the transfer of any kind of authority, sovereign or municipal, regarding the boundaries of Jerusalem, to any body which does not act by power of a law of the State of Israel.

Protection of Laws 3. Nothing in the directives of this Basic Law detracts from the directives of the Application of the Interim Accords on the West Bank and Gaza Strip Law (restriction of activity), 5755 - 1994, or from the directives of any law.
